One person died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Glenbrook at Lake Tahoe over the weekend, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
NHP troopers were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. Saturday to the crash. Investigator say a Silver 2009 Toyota Corolla driven by Mexican National Carlos Ortega Gomez was traveling eastbound on Highway 50. A white 2014 Subaru Impreza driven by Virgilio Ballesteros, 59, of Carson City was traveling westbound on Highway 50 in the slow lane.
The crash investigation shows the Corolla crossed over the centerline and began to rotate. As it rotated, it entered the westbound travel lanes directly in front of the white Subaru Impreza. With its front, the Subaru struck the right side of the Corolla. Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels blocking the slow lane of the roadway.
The drivers of both vehicles were uninjured in the crash. The right front passenger of the Toyota Corolla, Aquiles Molero, 36 of Los Angeles, died of injuries sustained during the course of the crash.
The westbound slow lane of Highway 50 was shut down for several hours while the crash scene was investigated. This stretch of highway is two lanes in each direction and the speed limit is 45 mph.
All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The road conditions at the time of the crash were noted as being wet and icy.
