Drifting smoke from fires in California is expected to worsen over the next several days as southwest to west winds increase and bring additional smoke into the Sierra and Western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Multiple fires are burning on the west side of the Sierra with the Valley, Butte, and Rough Fires being the largest, and producing the majority of the smoke we are currently seeing in the Sierra and Western Nevada.
The three webcam images above are from about noon Sunday showing deteriorating conditions area wide. Southwest to west winds will be increasing the next several days, which will transport additional smoke from these fires into the region, likely worsening conditions.
