A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 12:59 a.m. in the 1400 block of College Parkway on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana, expired registration, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
According to the arrest report, an officer was behind a black Toyota Tacoma stopped at a stop light facing east on Hot Springs Road at Roop Street in the turn lane. When the light became green, the Tacoma took off at a high rate of speed. It then turned east on College Parkway quickly, nearly striking a curb with the right side before it quickly went back into the travel lane. The officer caught up to the vehicle on College Parkway.
The deputy activated their emergency lights and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle did not immediately pull over until the driver reached Research Lane, returning south, striking the curb with his right side tires and then finally stopping at a gas station.
Dispatch confirmed the vehicle’s registration was expired. The officer made contact with the occupant of the vehicle, noticing his eyes were bloodshot and what appeared to be burn marks on his bottom lip. The officer asked the man if he had anything illegal in the vehicle. The man was cooperative and admitted to having a small amount of marijuana and a pipe. The officer asked the man when he last smoked marijuana. The man initially told the officer four hours prior to the traffic stop then said it was only 45 minutes prior to the stop, while at a friend’s home.
The man consented to a search of his vehicle where a small amount of marijuana was found in the center console and a pipe in the front passenger seat. The driver consented to field sobriety tests and demonstrated impairment. Bail: $3,083.
