On Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was notified by the local General Motors Dealership managers that two pickups were stolen from their lot at approximately 2 a.m.

According to dealership representatives, they had informed California authorities directly of the theft and shortly thereafter, the California Highway Patrol had located the vehicles and were pursuing them.

As the California Highway Patrol attempted to stop the two vehicles, both of them sped away in different directions.  This resulted in two separate high-speed pursuits on the freeways and through downtown LA neighborhoods.

At the time of this release, both vehicle pursuits had ended without injury to anyone, and the drivers were successfully taken into custody in Los Angeles.  Initial information suggested minor damage to the stolen vehicles and one Highway Patrol vehicle damaged.  No other damages or injuries were reported to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.  The exact times and locations of the pursuits have not been confirmed.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office was notified of the thefts at approximately 10:40 a.m. and patrols immediately responded.  Deputies obtained information from the dealership that once the vehicles were realized stolen, the dealership authorities informed California law enforcement agencies.  Both vehicles were quickly located southbound on the I-5 Freeway.   

Carson City Detectives are investigating this incident.  While the suspects have not yet been positively identified, initial reports suggest that the suspects may have been on the Carson City dealership lot on Dec. 29, and may have planned the thefts well before entering the lot on Dec. 30.
