A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain lane following a single vehicle crash, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

At 7:46 p.m. a Carson City sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to an accident on US-50 and Golf Club Drive. The deputy met with an NHP trooper who briefed him on what happened.

The motorist was driving west on US-50 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the center divider. According to a witness, the man passed them at a high rate of speed in the left lane and lost control.

The witness stated they saw the vehicle swerve, then hit the center divider and traveled across the highway into the guard rail and then came back across the highway to the center divider. Once the vehicle came to a complete stop, the witness saw the driver exit the vehicle, the report states.

It was determined that he was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The driver told the NHP trooper that he had three beers earlier that evening but could not remember where he had them, the report states.

The CCSO deputy began interviewing the driver, listed from South Lake Tahoe, who seemed disoriented. The deputy could smell alcohol when standing next to him. At first the driver couldn’t tell the deputy where he was other than in the state of Nevada. He told the deputy he had three beers earlier, the report states.

At first he said he could not remember where he had them but eventually said that he had them at his place of work in South Lake Tahoe before driving to Carson City to shop. He stated he was on his way back from Carson City, his tires lost traction and he crashed.

Due to his story not making sense, the smell of alcohol, the witness statement and the man’s general disorientation, the deputy started standardized field sobriety tests, according to the report.

The man showed signs of impairment on the tests and was arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI. He consented to a preliminary breath test, which registered a .066. He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance. He agreed to an evidentiary breath test, with results of .156 and .150, the report states. Bail: $1,137.
