For the second year, Shoe Tree Brewing Co. both in Carson City and at their Minden location is hosting an ornament fundraiser for Austin’s House.

The ornaments are handblown glass made free of charge for the fundraiser by local artist Justin Colburn of Sierra Glass Mill.

“Sierra Glass Mill was founded with the intent of making handmade objects accessible to the public and building community,” said Colburn. “These handblown ornaments represent our commitment to building community through the arts in Northern Nevada. The glass community is small and expanding it through community outreach is a pillar of Sierra Glass Mill.”

Colburn said they chose to support Austin’s House with the ornament fundraiser as it provides critical support to children at a crucial time.

Since 2007, Austin’s House has provided emergency shelter and compassionate care for children in Northern Nevada who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, according to their website. They provide care to both boys and girls between the ages of birth to 18 until they are either reunited with their family or an appropriate long term placement is made.

“Austin’s House’s commitment to provide help, comfort, care and support to these children embodies how our team hopes to impact our community,” Colburn said. “We are proud to provide any and all support we can to this amazing organization.”

“We are so grateful for the fundraising collaboration between Sierra Glass Mill and Shoe Tree Brewing Company,” Marla Morris, executive director of Austin’s House, said. “Each ornament sold symbolizes hope and the proceeds go towards our mission of providing a safe and stable environment and much needed services and care to the children that come through our doors.”

Shoe Tree is often a hot spot of local fundraisers.

Just this holidays season alone, they are helping to raise money to provide a Christmas to foster care teens, are once again hosting a shoe drive to provide new shoes for local kids and seniors, and now, the ornament fundraiser.

“When Justin approached us about teaming up we knew it was something we needed to do because of the service Austin’s house provides to our community,” said Shoe Tree co-owner Paul Young.

Ornaments are $25 each and all proceeds go directly to Austin’s House.

Shoe Tree Brewing Co. is located at 1496 Old Hot Springs Rd. in Carson City, and 1758 U.S. Highway 395 N., Suite A. in Minden.
