Another weak system will bring another round of snow in the Sierra around Lake Tahoe and potential snow showers in Carson City through mid-day Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. This will create the potential for slick roads over area passes as snow accumulates.
Additionally, road surfaces from 4,500 to 5,000 feet north of Interstate 80 in Lassen/Plumas Counties will start above freezing before cooling below freezing overnight. In Carson City, there’s a 50 percent chance of snow falling late Tuesday night and a 30 percent chance of some snow showers for Wednesday. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Black ice may occur and will be a threat mainly along Highway 395 from Doyle to the Susanville area.
Travel restrictions will be likely for Sierra passes and around Tahoe as snow accumulates on road surfaces. For road conditions call 1-800-427-7623 for California and 1-877-NV-Roads for Nevada. You can also check road conditions online for Nevada and California.
