Did you know that Carson City and our surrounding rurals have been the star of a number of movies, thanks to our picturesque downtowns, beautiful landscapes, and historic buildings?

In recent years, Carson City has become a Hallmark movie destination thanks in part to the fact that actress Melissa Joan Hart, known for her popular role as Sabrina Sabrina the Teen Age Witch among other films, lives full time in Lake Tahoe.

Just in the last few years, Carson City has been used as a film location for both of Hallmark’s Once Upon a Time on Main Street and Feliz NaviDAD, starring the likes of Hart, Mario Lopez, and Vanessa Minnillo Lachey.

Now, Carson City is starring in a new Holiday film: A Winter’s Charm in Carson City.

The film, created and produced by Visit Carson City, stars local actors (including a cameo of our own capitol deer!) and local sights, all wrapped up into a charming parody shaped from thousands of cheesy but lovable Hallmark movies, featuring a story of a big city girl who falls in love with small town charm, along with the obligatory small-town love interest.

Follow Claire, sent to Carson City with one job to do: take all the wide open spaces Carson has to offer (featuring our own Silver Saddle Ranch) and develop it into “corporate high-rises” for her boss in “Big City.”

The movie is a marketing scheme to set Carson City as a Hallmark destination for tourists and locals alike, highlighting scenes of a sparkling, light-covered downtown, cozy local restaurants, and snowy outdoor adventures. The result is both very silly and very cute, as is intended, and is sure to be memorable for those who come across it.

Earlier this week, the Brewery Arts Center hosted a premiere for the film, complete with popcorn, talks with Visit Carson City and the actors, a red carpet, and much more.

I’m sure we can all breathe a sign of relief that the story is a work of fiction, and Big City isn’t coming for Silver Saddle Ranch anytime soon.
