UPDATE: The earthquake that was centered near Yerington was originally posted as a 5.8 magnitude. It was then downgraded to 5.7 and upgraded again to 5.8 by Nevada Seismological Lab.
The earthquake struck Monday afternoon 14 miles from Yerington. It happened at 3:08 p.m.
No word yet on damage or injuries but it shook for several seconds around Carson City and surrounding counties.
In Carson City there was a structure fire at a Rand Avenue residence that happened during the earthquake and may have been caused by the earthquake, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Nevada Seismological Lab reports more than two dozen smaller quakes since the 5.7 magnitude.
The area of the earthquake epicenter near Yerington has been active since the Dec. 4 earthquake that carried a 3.8 magnitude.
