On Friday, Dec. 1, Bethlehem Lutheran in Carson City held its annual School Spelling Bee. In the 3rd-5th grade Bee, Alexandra Highley took first place while fending off eight other contestants.
There were then three separate bees needed to determine the winner of each grade, 6,7, and 8th. The winner of each level then competed to determine the 6-8th grade Champion. Seventh grader, Hayden Steyn took first place in the 6th-8th-grade portion of the School Spelling Bee.
Alexandra Highley, 5th grade; Chunjae Stewart, 6th grade; Hayden Steyn, 7th grade and Rithika Uppu, 8th will now be eligible to compete in the City Bee at their respective grade levels.
