Dayton, NV—The Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity is proud to announce its selection as a recipient of Travel Nevada’s prestigious Destination Development Design (3D) Program grant, Cohort 3. This grant represents a significant step forward in advancing tourism efforts that will benefit the historic Sutro Tunnel project, as well as the communities of Dayton and Lyon County.
The Sutro Tunnel, an engineering marvel of the 19th century, was instrumental in the success of the Comstock Lode mining operations, facilitating efficient drainage and access to the mines. Restoring this historic site preserves a vital piece of Nevada’s heritage while creating opportunities to boost tourism, stimulate local economic growth, and strengthen community pride.
The 3D Program, initiated by Travel Nevada, is a forward-looking, tourism-based planning initiative designed to help rural communities develop sustainable and meaningful tourism experiences. With the support of this program, the Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity will work with industry experts to create a comprehensive 10-year destination plan. This plan will position the Sutro Tunnel as a key attraction for tourists and history enthusiasts, driving regional tourism and creating long-term benefits for Dayton and Lyon County.
