The Whyld Foundation, a newly established nonprofit serving children and families in Carson City, is proud to announce the launch of its in-school food pantry program, designed to give local students access to groceries in a way that preserves dignity, autonomy and choice.
Rooted in the belief that every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and cared for, the Whyld Foundation provides students with a unique, grocery-shopping experience inside their own school.
The foundation’s model allows children to hand-select items based on their personal preferences, dietary needs, and cooking ability. This approach empowers students while supplementing essential meals, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.
“We wanted to create a program that not only fills pantry shelves but fills hearts,” said Kimm Cox, Founder and President of the Whyld Foundation. “Giving children a choice over what they bring home provides comfort, pride, and a sense of independence that all kids deserve. Our goal is to meet needs quietly, respectfully, and directly within the walls of their school.”
The foundation currently operates inside a Carson City elementary school, with plans to expand to additional campuses as resources and community support grows. The organization is funded entirely by local donations, ensuring that every contribution stays right here in Carson City to support local families.
What sets the Whyld Foundation apart is its commitment to being a community-powered program. Donations are sourced locally, and the foundation connect with individuals, businesses, and organizations that want to help strengthen the safety net around Carson City’s youth. The foundation is now actively seeking:
• Volunteers to assist with assembling meal kits
• Community collaborators to serve as food drop-off locations
• Local businesses to participate in outreach and support drives
• Donors who want to sponsor meals, pantry shelves, or school expansion
“As we continue to grow, our hope is to build a community where no child wonders where their next meal will come from,” Kimm added. “It truly takes a village, and Carson City has shown time and time again that it is a community willing to show up.”
The Whyld Foundation invites all residents, businesses, and supporters to join the mission of helping youth lift up and dream.
