A 28-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for three felony counts grand larceny and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office report.

Nathan Scott Stevens was taken into custody at 7:55 a.m. He also was booked for three misdemeanor counts of obtaining money under false pretenses.

According to the sheriff’s office arrest report, a deputy met with the victim of a residential burglary, who advised they discovered two missing Honda generators.

On Oct. 29, the victim discovered one of the generators was missing. She thought it was possible her husband may have moved one and did not think too much of it, the report states. On Nov. 6, the victim discovered the second generator was missing. She checked with her husband who advised he did not move the generators at any time, the report states.

The victim advised their adult son had moved back into the residence within the last two years and learned he previously stole multiple items of jewelry from the home and pawned it. The victim said she recovered most of the items herself and did not file a report.

She suspected there could be other items missing but had to do an inventory of values in the home. She completed a written statement and later provided both model and serial numbers from the generators, valued at $2,000 at the time of purchase.

A CCSO deputy began an investigation and checked online where he learned the suspect pawned the first generator on Sept. 22 for $200 at a Carson City pawnshop. The suspect was photographed during the transaction, the generator was photographed, his license was photographed and he signed for the transaction, the report states.

He pawed the second generator on Oct. 28 for $160 at a Reno pawnshop. The deputy located other multiple and recent power tool and jewelry pawn transactions in the pawnshop system, the report states.

The investigating deputy had used an online system to send emails to each pawnshop to put a hold on further transactions. The deputy made contact with the victim and advised he had located both generators at two different pawn shops.

The investigating deputy made phone contact with the suspect who advised he was in Reno and unavailable to meet until the following. day. The deputy made an appointment to meet with the suspect at the sheriff’s office on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The deputy met with the suspect at the front counter of the sheriff’s office. The suspect stated he knew why he was called for an interview and admitted to stealing both generators from his parents and pawning them. He was read his Miranda warning and agreed to speak further, the report states.
