Your weekend has arrived, Carson City. Today is Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018. A busy week is deserving of time off and for many the weekend is extended as Monday is Veteran’s Day with federal, state and local governments, as well as city schools closed so we can pay tribute to America’s finest men and women who have served or are currently serving in our Armed Forces.

Grand opening at Tazmanian Boxing Club. 8 a.m. Come celebrate the grand opening of Tazmanian Boxing Club’s new location, 3737 N. Carson Street in Carson City, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featuring boxing, cardio boxing, cardio for women and mixed martial arts, Tazmanian Boxing Club is a complete fitness center. Muscle Powered Saturday hike to Spooner Lake to Marlette Lake. 8 a.m. This is the rescheduled hike that was originally listed in early October. It is an intermediate hike to Marlette Lake. Approximately 10 miles, round-trip, with time for lunch and spectacular views of Marlette Lake. Elevation gain is 700 feet. For fit and experienced hikers. The trailhead begins from Spooner Lake parking area and heads north towards Marlette Lake on North Canyon Trail. The entire activity will be approximately seven-plus hours; which includes transportation from Carson City, plus hike and lunch time. Meet at 8 a.m. at U.S. Highway 50 West Park and Ride to carpool or caravan. Sorry, no dogs on our weekend hikes. Required: Closed-toed hiking shoes, a minimum two quarts or more of water, and lunch and snacks. Hiking poles, sunscreen, and hat are highly recommended. Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market Carson City. 8 a.m. Come on down to the flea market on Saturday and Sunday and visit all our great vendors selling crafts, antiques, art, jewelry, knives and tons of misc. Get a head start on your holiday shopping with unique gifts. SpoonMe Creations will be there with handmade jewelry from flatware and a lot more. Holiday Bazaar Offers Crafts, Foods, & Classic Treasures in a Festive Atmosphere. 8:30 a.m. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in downtown Carson City at the corner of Telegraph and Division streets offers its annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Items for sale include hand-crafted notecards, hand-made apparel, accessories, and items for the home. Raggedy Ann dolls and Christmas bears will provide unique gifts. Holiday decor and ornaments will adorn the centerpiece Christmas tree. Gently used china, silver, and quality tableware will fill Classic Treasures. The Food Room will be overflowing with homemade treats including preserves, cookies, cakes, breads, and candies. A large selection of crafted jewelry and gently used jewelry will also be available.

Day 2 Pickleball Tournament at Carson City MAC. 9 a.m. Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space is hosting a Pickleball Tournament from Nov. 9-11 at the MAC Center, 1860 Russell Way, Carson City. Screenwriting 101 with Sean Mick at the Brewery Arts Center: This one-day workshop covers all aspects of the screenwriter’s craft, including Structure, Character, Dialogue, Format, Sales and Marketing. Beginners will learn the tools needed to write their first screenplay; more experienced writers will increase their skills and gain new insights into the writing process. Nevada State Museum in Carson City to commemorate 100th anniversary of end of World War I. 10 a.m. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City will be hosting a special event: “Armistice: Commemorating the End of the Great War.” The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and opens with a presentation of the colors by the Pyramid Lake Veterans and Warriors Organization. At 11 a.m., World War I Cavalry re-enactors will be in the museum parking lot, exhibiting their horses and gear. Admission is free. The event also marks the culmination of the museum’s Poppy Project, in which volunteers, students, scouts and community members have spent the past six months constructing paper poppies at various museum events.

— — Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company presents “Mamma Mia!” at the Carson City Community Center. 2 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget! The show tells the story of a young bride who discovers three men listed in her mother’s diary who could possibly be her father and invites them all to her wedding in hopes that her father will walk her down the aisle. The story is animated by ABBA hits that topped the charts in the 1970s, including Dancing Queen, Waterloo, Super Trouper and The Winner Takes It All. Washoe Lake Wildlife Presentation. 2 to 3 p.m. Discover some of the wild animals that call Washoe Lake home during this slideshow presentation. Hot cocoa and light refreshments will be available. Meet at the Washoe Lake State Park Headquarters. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Boulevard approximately four miles. Pass the park entrance, and the park office is on your right at 4855 Eastlake Blvd. There is no charge for this program.

Free U.S. citizenship study class in Carson City. 2 p.m. The ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada is here to ensure that all people have the opportunity to make the American Dream come true for them. When Our Students Succeed, Our Nation Succeeds. Therefore, it is sponsoring a free U.S. Citizenship Study class on Saturdays for 12 weeks from 2 to 4 p.m. The location is the Digitorium Room at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Singer, songwriter Al Stewart at Carson Nugget. Shows are at 7 and 9.m. Singer-songwriter Stewart came to stardom as part of the British folk revival in the 1960s and 1970s and developed the combination of folk-rock songs with delicately woven tales of the great characters and events from history. Stewart has 19 studio albums between “Bedsitter Images” in 1967 and “Sparks of Ancient Light” in 2008, plus the live album “Uncorked” with Dave Nachmanoff in 2009. Stewart continues to tour regularly around the U.S. and Europe. He is perhaps best known for his hits ‘Year of the Cat’ from the platinum album of the same name and the platinum follow-up album ‘Time Passages.’ His career spans four decades as a key figure in British music. Christmas tree permits available on Carson, Bridgeport ranger districts. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits must be purchased in person and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with a limit of two trees per household. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and only valid through Dec. 25, 2018. The Ranger Districts have a limited amount of Christmas tree permits available, and once those allotted permits are sold, no more will be available.

— The Nevada Artists Association (NAA) presents the annual Nevada Day Art Show, now through Nov. 30. Entries in all categories are judged with cash prizes awarded to winners. The NAA Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

Carson City Art Gallery features Show by Erik Holland. 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Celebrate the artwork of Erik Holland. He has worked as an artist his entire adult life. He started painting murals in Fairbanks, Alaska in the 1990’s. He then moved to Reno, Nevada, achieving his dream of living in the high desert. He has had a one man show in Reno every year since 2001. The show was born on a desire to depict the many sides of America. Amerika is spelled with a K to denote concern with our troubled times. The images come from the life of artist Erik Holland, starting in 1980, when he painted “Spirit of the Eighties” The show is in fact a retrospective of the artist’s life from 1980 to the present. — The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others.
