NHP Trooper Charles Caster
On Thursday, October 28, 2021, at approximately 6:52 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle vs pedestrian crash on S. Carson Street at the IR-580 northbound on-ramp in Carson City.
Preliminary investigation shows that a silver 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup, driven by Catarino Sotelo Jacinto, was traveling northbound on S. Carson Street at the IR-580 northbound on-ramp. A pedestrian was crossing the on- ramp in the crosswalk. The front of the Nissan struck the pedestrian. The Nissan continued northbound on IR- 580 and fled the scene.
The pedestrian, Charles Hodges, a 49-year-old Gardnerville resident, was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
NHP Troopers located the Nissan and Jacinto at a residence in Northwest Reno. Jacinto was arrested and booked into the Carson City Jail on the following charges: Hit and run causing death (Felony), fail to report (Gross Misdemeanor) and duty to render aid (Misdemeanor).
