On Sunday, sixteen mountain bike teams from the northern Nevada and northeastern California regions converged on Western Nevada College for the Capital City Crusher.  With 41 racers, the Senators put together their best race of the 2025 mountain bike season with 8 podium finishers and another 9 top-10 finishes.

A little after 9AM, the high school boys were on course.  Devon Granata was the top Senator finisher in the varsity boys category with a fourth place finish.  Sylis Chalmers was next across the finish line in fifth place.  Freshman Jax Huntington put in a huge effort, crossing the finish line second in the level 5 boys category.  Seth Chalmers (varsity), Brant Reyna (JV), and Dominick Winbigler (level 5) further contributed to the Senators fortunes with their own top 10 finishes.

The high school girls were next on course.  Riley Kuhlman raced to her best finish of the season, crossing the line in third in the varsity girls category.  Brooke Landis (JV), Adeline Jensick (level 4), and Nikki Lawlor (level 4) also raced to top 10 finishes.

The Senators had three middle school girls finish on the podium: Evie Huntington finished in fourth place in the level 3 category, and Syrae Lenz and Clara Morway both finished fifth in the level 2 and level 1 categories, respectively.  Sophia Alferez (level 1) contributed another top 10 finish for the Senators.

The racing concluded with the Middle school boys.  First year racer Max Giurca capped-off his best race of the season, arriving at the finish in fourth place for the level 1 boys.  Ben Winbigler and Mark Lobsinger, both competing in the level 1 category, finished in the top 10.

Weather permitting, the Senators will finish their season this weekend at the Tahoe-Donner Nordic Center just north of Truckee.  The Senators gratefully acknowledge the support of the community who, armed with cowbells, cheered on the competitors throughout the day!
