Harvest time at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (NSRM) started Saturday in Carson City with a cornucopia of family fun and entertainment.

The Harvest Train returned to Carson City Saturday morning for another two-weekend run in October, steaming into Wabuska Station to begin its celebration of the fall season.

The Virginia and Truckee Railroad’s No. 25 steam train carries the Harvest Train banner again this year, taking guests on a crisp autumn trip on the tracks around the NVSRM property.

Museum grounds, including Wabuska Station, were decorated with pumpkins, scarecrows and Halloween scenes to inspire a festive mood.

Besides steam train rides, the annual Harvest Train festival features a craft fair, showcasing hand-made items from local vendors.

Local elementary school children were also featured in a scarecrow art show and auction, from which creations made by students are sold to help their teachers buy classroom supplies.

Food vendors — including Nevada Nosh and Taste of Chicago food trucks, as well as Sassafras Electic Food Joint — were also on site to feed and refresh visitors.

The museum is collecting non-perishable food items during the two-weekend Harvest Train festival this year for a food drive that benefits Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Harvest Train events run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15-16 and again next weekend, Oct. 22-23.

Unlimited train rides and museum admission costs $15 for adults, $10 for museum members, $5 for children 4-17, and free for ages 3 and younger. Regular ride fare and museum admission pricing is also available.

Wristbands for unlimited rides and admission are sold at the event. Advance purchase is not required.

The NSRM is at 2180 S. Carson Street in Carson City. For more information, contact the museum at (775) 687-6953, ext. 224, or visit its web site here.
