A total lunar eclipse will be viewable early Wednesday morning across all of Nevada and California, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The eclipse will occur from 2:15 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. with peak viewing of the total eclipse roughly from 3:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Mostly clear conditions expected. Bring a jacket.

This is the Northern Hemisphere’s Hunter’s Moon – the full moon after the Harvest Moon. It’s also known as the Blood Moon, and this eclipse is the second in a series of four so-called Blood Moon eclipses. The final event of 2014 occurs Oct. 23 at the Moon’s ascending node in southern Virgo. Although it is only a partial solar eclipse, it is of particular interest because the event is widely visible from Canada and the USA.
