The region’s top K9 heroes representing law enforcement agencies from across the region showed off their skills and abilities with their handlers Saturday during the 5th annual Carson City K9 Unit Challenge at Fuji Park.
More than 30 law enforcement K9 handlers and their four-legged partners competed in primary events across multiple disciplines, including narcotics detection, agility, obedience and patrol scenarios.
The K9 Unit Challenge offered a unique opportunity to see the dedication, discipline and teamwork between law enforcement officers and their K9 partners from around the region.
Among the agencies participating are the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Storey County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada State Police, Reno, UNR and Pyramid Lake Police. Also, the Carson City Sheriff’s Mounted Unit featured an afternoon demonstration.
The competition brought families and spectators of all ages to the free event, filling up the bleachers at Fuji Park under sunny skies and unseasonably warm weather.
Meanwhile, directly behind the bleachers, local vendors and organizations set up booths, providing everything from games and prizes, demonstrations, t-shirts, stuffed animals, food, refreshments and more.
We will post the results of the K9 Unit Challenge when they become available.
