Plans to develop property on 78-acres between Ormsby and Mountain into a residential development known as the Vintage at Kings Canyon was recommended for approval 4-2 late Thursday by the Carson City Planning Commission following a special meeting at the Carson City Community Center.

The proposed development, an over-55 community for seniors with 212 sing family lots, now moves to the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

Under Thursday night’s recommendations, the applicant agreed to limit buildings in the development at one story. Some buildings within the development had been proposed at two stories.

The vote was 4 to 2 in favor to recommend approval to the Board of Supervisors. Chairman Paul Esswein, voted against it. Also voting against the recommendation was Walt Owens. Monica Green, who lives near the property, abstained at the advice of the District Attorney. The meeting lasted from 5 p.m. to approximately 10:30 p.m. and was attended by well over 200 people.

It is unknown at this time when it will go to the Carson City Board of Supervisors. The developers have some requirements and additional information to be provided before it goes to Supervisors, said Lee Plemel, community development director.
