On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of U.S. Highway 50 and Douglas Street in Dayton for a reported motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.
Upon arrival, deputies located the motorcycle rider unconscious and not breathing. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived and assumed care. Despite the efforts of first responders, the motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Preliminary information obtained from witnesses reported the motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving through traffic before the crash. The motorcycle had turned west from Dayton Valley Road onto U.S. 50 prior to the collision. A 2016 Ram pickup was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 and had entered the center turn lane to make a left turn into a private driveway near S&S – Shell Gas Station when the motorcycle collided with the rear portion of the pickup.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time and will be released following notification of next of kin. The Nevada Highway Patrol has assumed responsibility for the crash investigation. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation and any final determination regarding the cause of the crash will be made by the investigating agency.
