Summer may be winding down, but Carson City’s outdoor pool is going to the dogs Saturday.
Carson Animal Services Initiative will hold its annual Pooch Plunge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Carson Aquatics Center outdoor pool, 841 N. Roop St.
The fundraiser gives dogs a chance to swim, splash and chase toys in the pool while raising money for CASI’s Critter Fixer spay and neuter voucher program for low-income pet owners. The program, working with local veterinary partners, has now helped more than 1,700 cats and dogs gain access to the procedures.
The first hour, from 9 to 10 a.m., is reserved for small dogs. Dogs of all sizes are welcome from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission is $10 for the first dog and $7 for each additional dog. Tickets can be purchased in advance at poochplunge26.givesmart.com or at the event.
All participating dogs must be friendly and current on their vaccinations.
The Pooch Plunge has become an end-of-summer tradition in Carson City.
Each year, dogs ranging from enthusiastic divers to more cautious paddlers take over the outdoor pool for the event, which is held at the end of the summer schedule.
CASI originally formed to support development of Carson City’s animal shelter and has continued its animal-welfare work through the voucher program and community fundraisers.
