Sunny days will certainly be sweeping the clouds away in Carson City Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025. The Carson City School District Multilingual Learner Vision Team, in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, will welcome beloved Sesame Street star Sonia Manzano—award-winning author, actress and lifelong advocate for education—for an inspiring evening at the Carson City Community Center.

Best known for her groundbreaking role as “Maria” on Sesame Street and for her inspiring children’s books, Manzano will speak on the importance of language, culture and family in shaping student success—and how communities can come together to support all learners.

The evening will begin with a book signing from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by a bilingual keynote presentation (English and Spanish) and Q&A session in the Bob Baldrick Theater from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The first 50 attendees will receive a complimentary signed copy of one of Manzano’s books.

“This is a rare opportunity for our students and families to hear from someone who has dedicated her life to empowering youth and is a visionary leader for children and families,” said Christie Perkins, director of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Student Wellness for the Carson City School District. “We’re honored to welcome Sonia Manzano to Carson City.”

Food trucks will also offer meals and refreshments, available for purchase, during the event. For more information, please contact Alicia Smith, asmith@carson.k12.nv.us or 775-283-1521.
