A 34-year-old Carson City man faces robbery and drug charges after he allegedly pulled a large knife on Walmart security Saturday when they confronted him for shoplifting, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Keith Allen Price Jr., was booked into custody at 5:21 p.m. in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road following a brief foot pursuit with deputies.

He faces felony charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts assault with a deadly weapon, trafficking a controlled substance, and sales of a controlled substance after deputies located 11.05 grams of methamphetamine stashed in a pouch he threw during the pursuit. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of bail conditions.

According to the arrest report, Walmart loss prevention attempted to stop Price from leaving the store after seeing him attempt to steal women’s razor blades, women’s hair spray, body wash, conditioner and a cell phone battery pack. The items were valued at $36.61.

When the two security employees said they wanted to talk to Price about the items that were concealed on his person as he left the store, the suspect pulled a large black knife out and pointed at them, saying “get out of my way” and “don’t touch me,” according to the arrest report.

The security team stepped back after seeing the knife, and let Price leave the store. They then called 911 and began chasing Price toward Roop and Hot Springs Road, the arrest report states.

A sheriff’s deputy caught up to the suspect in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road. He was observed removing items and throwing them to the ground, including a black pouch that was later found to contain the methamphetamine, as he was running.

Price then attempted to go into an upstairs apartment, banging on the door and attempting to force his way inside. Due to the knife being brandished, and the man’s combative nature toward deputies in the past, the officer removed his duty weapon and gave Price multiple orders to put his hands in the air and give up, the report states.

The suspect ignored commands and then exposed the grip of a large black knife. He paced back and forth, clenching his fists, the arrest report states. At gunpoint the deputy continued to give Price commands to walk down the stairs. The man quickly walked down the stairs with his hands to his side, and then challenged the officer to shoot him, according to the arrest report.

The suspect eventually put up his hands and got on one knee where he was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Deputies recovered the thrown items, including a black pouch that contained three baggies of methamphetamine, a digital scale with residue on it, and a glass pipe with a burnt bulb. He was taken to the hospital for medical clearance for a bruise to his rib and then taken to jail. Bail: $114,137.
