Early Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Dayton Patrol Deputies assisted the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) with a multi-jurisdictional operation involving the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team (SET).
The investigation began when Dayton Patrol deputies contacted a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Valero gas station in Mound House, Nev. Deputies located a male driver, later identified as Richard West, who appeared to be unconscious in the driver’s seat. West was subsequently determined to be under the influence of fentanyl.
During the investigation, deputies located fentanyl and methamphetamine inside the vehicle. Information developed during the investigation was provided to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SET team, which led to a hotel room in Carson City. Courtney O’Brien was located in the hotel room where additional fentanyl and methamphetamine were located. Courtney was arrested in connection with the investigation.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office offers its thanks to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office for its continued cooperation and strong working relationship.
