Carson City Fire Department was called Wednesday evening to the area of Heaven Hill Way and Imus Road in north Carson City for a report of a brush fire. The fire was eventually extinguished by rain.

The call came into dispatch at around 7:30 p.m. from 911 callers who reported a lightning strike followed by a power line explosion and then small fires that broke out, according to dispatch.

An arriving Carson City Sheriff’s Office sergeant first responder reported small spot fires near a downed power line.

Rain had begun to move into the area when firefighters arrived on scene, helping extinguish the fire. Homes and structures were not threatened. The small fires combined into one 20 by 30 foot fire and was extinguished, according to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief.

NV Energy was alerted to the situation and was to arrive by 8 p.m. to fix the power line.
