The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash where a juvenile died after his dirt bike collided with a van Sunday afternoon on US-50 eastbound at Scenic Avenue in the Stagecoach area, according to NHP spokesman Sgt. Chris Brown.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a dirt bike rider was attempting to enter US50 from Scenic Avenue. The dirt bike rider failed to yield to a van traveling eastbound on US50 approaching Scenic Avenue. The van crashed into the dirt bike.

The rider of the dirt bike, a juvenile male, was pronounced dead on scene by medical personnel, said Brown.

Eastbound traffic is being detoured at Scenic Avenue. This detour is expected for the next two hours.

NHP advises motorists to use caution in the area.

Crash involving cattle truck and pickup with travel trailer

Elsewhere, NHP advises that US-50 is closed at Topaz Street due to a crash that happened at Ramsey Weeks Cutoff in Silver Springs. The crash involved a pickup with a travel trailer that collided with a cattle truck. The driver of the pickup with the travel trailer sustained minor injuries. Three cows did not survive the crash, said Brown.

The preliminary investigation indicates the pickup with a travel trailer going westbound and the cattle truck was going eastbound, said Brown. The pickup with the travel trailer attempted to make a left turn to Ramsey Weeks, turning in front of the cattle truck. The cattle truck struck the pickup and the travel trailer overturned.

NHP says the road is closed at US-50 at Topaz Street near Ramsey Weeks and will remain so for approximately two hours.
