This week’s Catmandu Cat of the Week is not the typical healthy, happy feline hoping to find a forever home for many years to come. Duchess is something even more special: a 12-year-old old soul who needs someone willing to give her all the love they can for whatever time she has left.
Duchess is a gorgeous medium-haired silver tabby with the sweetest personality imaginable. She is active, bright-eyed, easy-going and incredibly affectionate. She is gentle, loving and simply a joy to be around. She gets along well with other cats and has previously lived happily with a small dog. She is polite, well-behaved, and has perfect litter box habits.

Sadly, Duchess is in the latter stages of kidney disease. We believe she probably has a year at most before the time comes for her to cross the Rainbow Bridge.
That is why we are looking for something a little different for this special girl: a fospice (foster hospice) home where Duchess can spend her remaining time surrounded by love, comfort and the security of a real home. All of her medical care will be provided through All Creatures Vet Services at no cost to her fospice home.
Duchess came to Catmandu under heartbreaking circumstances. She was the cherished and beloved companion of a cat rescuer in Battle Mountain. When her human friend unexpectedly passed away, Duchess and her feline companions were suddenly orphaned. There were no potential adopters in the tiny town of Battle Mountain willing to take them, and the cats were living alone in a house without air conditioning.
To honor a fellow rescuer and the cats she loved, Catmandu took in Duchess and her friends. Only afterward did we learn about Duchess’ serious health issues.
Duchess can stay at Catmandu for the rest of her life if that is what is necessary. But a cage-free sanctuary, even a loving one, isn’t the same as having a person of her own. We would dearly love to see this sweet old girl experience the warmth, attention and love of a home for whatever time she has remaining.
If you have a huge heart and are willing and able to love Duchess for however much time she has left, please contact us at momcat@catmanducc.org.
And while Duchess is our featured Cat of the Week, she is not the only cat waiting for a family. Catmandu currently has 18 super-adoptable cats, ranging in age from 1 to 12 years old, all hoping to find their forever homes.
Catmandu is a cage-free sanctuary and rescue located at 1829 Brown St. in Carson City. We are open for adoptions Friday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Potential adopters are asked to arrive no later than 3 p.m. so they have plenty of time to relax, explore and get to know the cats before adoptions close.
We hope to see you this weekend. And perhaps one very special old soul named Duchess will get to meet the person who has been waiting for her, too.
