Over 100 artisans from across the West Coast lined Virginia City’s C Street this past weekend for the 6th annual Art Walk on the Comstock.

The art walk is hosted by the Great American Craft Fairs, an organization founded in Reno in the 1950s to bring together some of the best hand-crafted products from businesses across the West Coast directly to consumers through large-scale events.

There was a large selection of arts, crafts, and other hand-crafted products to choose from, everything from locally harvested honey straight from the comb to jewelry, like the beads and gems of StrandedInCali, to handwoven blankets, wood carvings, vintage clothing, and so much more.

But the Comstock isn’t just for customers—vendors enjoyed their weekend selling wares in the Old West, too.

Among the artists and vendors were Lynn and Rob Histing of Katie’s Collective. Their daughter Katie founded the business at 19 after she was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone/soft tissue cancer. The artwork for sale was hand-drawn by Katie while going through treatment.

Katie’s Collective donates a portion of the proceeds back to the nonprofits that helped Katie through her battle like the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. She fought for six years until she passed away last November at the age of 23, according to the Histings.

“We’re keeping her spirit and legacy alive through her art,” Lynn Histing said.

The season’s events in Virginia City aren’t over yet. The 66th annual Camel and Ostrich Races return to the Comstock September 5 – 7.
