A 23-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for felony domestic battery by strangulation after allegedly choking his girlfriend during an argument, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Following an investigation, CCSO deputies arrested Jaxen Kenneth Burkett of Carson City. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched at 9:15 p.m. to the 1200 block of East 5th street for an unknown problem. Dispatch advised they could hear a female screaming and saying stop. Dispatch also advised the female was crying and stating she can’t breath.

Deputies arrived and observed the victim being escorted into a Carson City Fire Department ambulance. Another deputy made contact and spoke with Burkett, later determined to the be the suspect, about the incident.

The arresting officer went to the ambulance to speak with the victim regarding the incident. She was distraught and hyperventilating, the report states. The deputy asked if she would tell them what happened. She stated she and the suspect had been drinking and got into an argument. She stated she slapped the man earlier in the day but was not physical with him after that. She said they were arguing near the restroom of the apartment and that Burkett began to choke her, the report states.

The deputy asked her at any point did she lose consciousness. She stated she was about to and that her vision was closing in on her. She said Burkett let her go. She stated that after he stopped choking her, she was screaming and that he covered her mouth with his hands to get her to stop, the report states.

She said he grabbed a sock from the bedroom and tried to shove it in her mouth. She stated that she was able to get away from the man and locked herself in the bathroom and began to vomit from being choked. She then called the sheriff’s office.

The arresting deputy spoke with the suspect and asked him what happened. He stated they were drinking vodka and began to argue over him breaking up with her and said that she slapped him on the left side of his face. He stated that he did choke her but she didn’t lose consciousness and it wasn’t the best decision he ever made, the report states.

The deputy asked him about a sock and he stated he wrapped it around her mouth. The suspect stated that he did that so they can work out their issues on their own. He stated that she went into the bathroom and called the police, the report states.

The man was determined to be the primary physical aggressor and was arrested for suspicion of felony domestic battery by strangulation. Bail: $7,500.

In other arrests:
— A 27-year-old Carson City man, Jason Matthew Anthis, was arrested August 5 for suspicion of grand larceny of a motor vehicle. According to the booking report, deputies responded to the 3300 block of Highway 50 East, an auto sales business, for a report of an alleged car theft suspect being on the property.

Deputies made contact with the suspect who matched the description given by the reporting party. He stated a few nights prior he observed a car on the car lot running unattended late at night. He stated he did not want the car to get taken by other people, so he took the car and ran errands in California before bringing it back to the lot, the report states.

A deputy made contact with the office manager who confirmed she observed the car was taken a few nights prior. She called CCSO and had the initial report taken. The deputy asked if she let anyone borrow the car, which she stated no. The deputy asked if she knew the man, which she stated no and said no one was given permission to drive the vehicle during those hours.

The man was arrested for grand larceny of a motor vehicle for taking the car without permission from the car lot. Bail: $7,500.

— A 53-year-old Reno man driving a semi truck was arrested early Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, destroying property, open container and failing to provide information in an accident after allegedly hitting a tree with the truck and then dragging it in front of a business, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Deputies responded at 4:36 a.m. to the 2000 block of North Carson Street for a semi that hit a tree in front of a business. The vehicle drug the tree into the parking lot where it became dislodged. The truck then continued to drive southbound on Carson Street, according to the report.

While another deputy was looking for the semi, the arresting deputy observed a large tree that was in front of the business parking lot. At that time, a fellow deputy located the semi and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle as it was believed to be the semi at fault, the report states.

The arresting deputy spoke with the driver, who was stopped at the corner of Carson Street and 10th Street. When the deputy first spoke with the man, he observed slurred speech, watery eyes and a sway when he stood.

The deputy asked if he had any alcoholic beverage that evening to which he stated no. The officer asked if he would be willing to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. The driver agreed and showed multiple clues of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .149 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Open containers were later found within the “sleeper” portion of the semi, the report states.

The man was read the request for voluntary evidence. He agreed to provide a blood sample but later refused to let a lab tech extract blood. At that time, the deputy advised they would be applying for a warrant to draw his blood, according to the report.

The deputy had a conference call with the on-call district attorney and on-call judge. The judge granted the warrant for an evidentiary blood draw.

The man was booked for suspicion of DUI, failure to give information to other party in an accident, destroying property valued at $250 to $5,000 and open container in a vehicle. Bail: $2,500.

— A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant. Bail: $2000.

— A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday in the area of Airport Road and Highway 50 for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, operating a vehicle without proof of insurance, expired registration and following too closely.

According to the booking report, a deputy was called to US-50 East and Airport Road for a non-injury crash. The deputy made contact with the driver who informed him that he had a beer earlier when asked if he had anything to drink that day.

The deputy could smell an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. The driver consented to standardized field sobriety tests and showed clues of impairment on the tests. He refused to consent to a preliminary breath test. Based on the field sobriety test results, the man was arrested for suspicion of DUI, no proof of insurance and expired registration. He was taken to jail for evidentiary testing.

— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday at 6:48 p.m. in the area of Brown Street and Edmonds Drive for two misdemeanor outside agency warrants out of Lyon County. Bail: $1,225.

— A 33-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday in the 3000 block of North Roop Street for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $2,500.
