Families, children and teens turned Saturday into a celebration of the region’s parks and those responsible for keeping them secure at the 6th annual Regional Junior Ranger Day at Pete Livermore Sports Complex.
The event brought live music, food, activities hosted by local park agencies, a dunk tank and more to the south Carson City athletic complex, where children and their parents got the opportunity to speak with and ask questions to park rangers and staffers from Carson City, Reno, Washoe County and Nevada State Parks.
Kids even got lessons in fish casting from the Nevada Department of Wildlife staff and were able to dunk their friends and local park rangers at the popular dunk tank, a perfect cool-off amid the upper 90s heat.
Live music by The Sun Rays brought instrumental rock and surf tunes while Lady Griller served up delicious food and La Tapatia dished out homemade ice cream, popsicles and fresh seasonal beverages to keep parents and kids cool and hydrated.
Participating agencies featured Nevada State Parks, Reno Parks, Washoe County Parks and Carson City Parks. Participating children were also sworn is as Junior Rangers during a special ceremony. For their attendance, the new Junior Rangers each received a parks passport and learned about upcoming Park Ranger activities in the region.
