On Thursday, the Lyon County School District issued a release following the arrest of an employee at a Dayton elementary school accused of child sex crimes.

At the request of multiple readers, we have reached out to the district to learn more about his suspension, and whether it was initiated at the same time as the Lyon County Sheriff Office’s investigation, or of it started at the onset of his arrest.
We will update with that information when it becomes available.
The LCSD response issued today is as follows:
Dear LCSD Community,
Following recent action by law enforcement, Lyon County School District is addressing criminal charges filed against an employee assigned to Dayton Elementary School. We take these allegations very seriously; this egregious behavior is in complete conflict with the manner in which we treat students and the morals, values, and professional conduct standards of the LCSD.
In accordance with personnel procedures and NRS, the staff member is currently suspended from employment with the LCSD. The LCSD will comply fully with state licensing notification requirements and continues to assist the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in its work.
Because this is an active law enforcement matter and a confidential personnel issue, further details cannot be released by the District. Please contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for updates regarding the investigation.
The safety and well being of our students is the highest priority of LCSD staff and we are dedicated to protecting the safety and well being of our children. All teachers hired in our district are licensed through the Nevada Department of Education (NDE), having completed all required background checks and fingerprinting prior to entering the classroom.
