Entrepreneurs, startups and small business owners will have an opportunity to learn about expanding their businesses during a free workshop hosted Aug. 11 in Carson City.
The Carson City Business Workshop is scheduled for 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at The Studio at Adams Hub for Innovation, 111 W. Proctor St. The event is free, though advance registration is required because seating is limited.
The workshop is geared toward aspiring entrepreneurs, home-based and cottage-industry businesses, makers and established small business owners preparing to hire employees or move into commercial space.
Featured speakers include Kathy S. Halbardier, a rural business advisor with the Nevada Small Business Development Center, and Hope Sullivan, director of Carson City’s Community and Economic Development Department.
Topics will include business planning, market research, state licensing and registration, insurance, financing resources and transitioning from operating a business independently to hiring employees. The workshop also will cover Carson City-specific topics such as business licensing, zoning, permitting, local government processes and other resources available to businesses.
Carson City’s Community and Economic Development Department oversees planning, building, business licensing, development engineering and code enforcement. The department serves as the city’s central point of contact for permitting, development review and business licensing, making the workshop an opportunity for entrepreneurs to better understand local requirements before launching or expanding a business.
Coffee and water will be provided. Registration is free but required, and additional information is available through the Northern Nevada Development Authority.
