Have you ever wondered what it might be like to live and work on the oil rigs on the North Slope of Alaska above the Arctic Circle where winter temperatures can drop to -65 degrees F?
Don’t miss the next author event at Browsers Corner Book Store on August 15 and meet author Bruce Rettig to hear about his adventures and enjoy a slide show of photos documenting the area and his experiences.
Bruce will share adventures from his award-winning book Refraction: An Arctic Memoir which recounts his experiences working in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, a remote Arctic outpost and home to the largest oilfield in North America.
It’s the story of one person’s journey, told in a series of reflections on a time spent living in a frozen wasteland.
Part adventure and part environmental awakening, Refraction is a wonderful coming-of-age story that brings up important issues of the human impact on the natural world. It’s an honest rendition of one man’s experience on the construction of the Alaska Pipeline and how it looks to him now. It’s a real look at how our perception of our own experience can change over time.
Refraction is the Nonfiction winner of the San Francisco Writers Contest, International Chanticleer Book Award, and Pacific Northwest Writers Association Literary Award. It is also a Nautilus Book Awards winner.
Join us for this fun and informative author event with Bruce Rettig, Friday, August 15 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Browsers Corner Book Store. The store is located at 711 E. Washington Street in Carson City, directly across the street from the library parking lot. For more information contact bookstoremanager2022@gmail.com.
