Carson City Fire Department responded Sunday morning to a fire in the area of the Carson City Landfill off of Flint Drive and Highway 50.
At around 8 a.m. dispatch received calls of smoke at the landfill. Arriving first responders reported a 10 foot by 10 foot fire at the bottom of the construction area of the landfill. There is not a threat to structures.
Carson City Public Works was called in for water tender support. It has been nearly two weeks since firefighters extinguished a fire that burned for five days at the landfill.
The fire was in a construction area that contained power poles, large trees, and heavy timber construction materials.
Multiple landfill fires in the past have been largely due to improperly disposed of rechargeable batteries, but at this time, the cause remains unknown.
We will update as more information becomes available.
