Recently crowned Miss USA 2014 Nia Sanchez spent Wednesday in Carson City, the first celebration trip since becoming the first Miss USA from Nevada. She was crowned June 8.

Sanchez was officially greeted into the city by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, Carson City Visitors Bureau Director Joel Dunn, Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada members and the Carson High School Senators cheerleading team.

As Miss USA, 24-year-old Sanchez is passionate about organizations that empower women and children to learn self-defense. A fourth degree black belt in Taekwondo, Nia plans to use her skills to encourage women to protect themselves in situations.

In addition, Nia will also be an advocate for breast and ovarian cancer awareness throughout her reign. When Miss USA is not reporting to her royal duties, she enjoys practicing martial arts, hiking, volunteering and traveling.
