On Sunday, July 12, 2026, at approximately 8:50 p.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol, a division of the Nevada State Police, responded to a crash on SR341 just north of D Street. This is between Carson Street and B Street on the north end of Virginia City, Nev.
The preliminary investigation indicates a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was traveling northbound on SR341, just north of the intersection with D Street, in the northbound travel lane. The motorcycle was traveling too fast and ran off the roadway to the right while entering a left curve. The right side of the motorcycle struck the guardrail. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle overturned onto its right side and stopped across the northbound travel lane.
The driver of the motorcycle, Stephen Klein, a 34-year-old male from Reno, Nev., was pronounced deceased on scene.
Vehicle speed and driver impairment are both suspected as factors in this crash.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating this crash.
