When community members gather at the July 19 fundraiser for Night Off the Streets (NOTS), they will be showing their appreciation for how the organization helps unhoused people year round.

“The Night Off the Streets organization is counted upon by first responders for its referrals, services, and resource assistance abilities,” Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

He observes how NOTS volunteers help connect unhoused and disadvantaged people with ways to sustainably improve their living situations.

“Night Off the Streets is critical to the community and is a vital resource to the greater Carson City,” Furlong states.

The NOTS warming center was founded eight years ago after four homeless people died of hypothermia while sleeping outdoors.

Since opening the center, no one has died from exposure to the cold in Carson City, except for people newly arrived in town who did not know about the shelter.

These tragic cases emphasize the value of the services provided by NOTS to save lives.

The Hands Across Carson: Getting Groovy Fundraiser will help NOTS to continue to serve the community. The fundraiser will be held at the Governor’s Mansion. Doors open at 4:30 pm.

Proceeds from the event, including raffle prizes and auctions, will help fund the cost of operating the warming center during the Winter months and other types of year-round support of the unhoused in Carson City.

“Night Off the Streets would not exist without the community’s support,” says NOTS Manager Jodi Miller. More than 100 people volunteer during the Winter season at the shelter. People also donate food and clothing as well as their money

Tickets for the fundraiser are $95.00 per person or $850.00 for a table of 10. Tickets can be purchased by calling 775-600-2215 or online at https://www.zeffy.com/ticketing/hands-across-carson-getting-groovy.
