Nevada has set records for six consecutive quarters for the total number of employers, increasing by 1,240 or 1.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to figures released Wednesday by the state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. This brings the total to 66,900 as of the first quarter of 2016.
Additionally, the state has experienced year-over-year growth in employer totals for 19 consecutive quarters, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
“The increase in employers is partially attributable to an amendment made to NRS 616B.691,” Anderson said. “This change required client companies, which lease employees from Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs), to be tracked individually in Nevada’s unemployment insurance system.
The impact was primarily seen in the fourth quarter of 2015, though the first quarter of 2016 employer counts are also likely higher due to the law change. Nevertheless, the employer growth also signifies continued improvement in the state’s economic health.”
Year-over-year, the sum of businesses in the Silver State increased by 5,040 or 8.2 percent. From the recessionary low of 56,000 employers, Nevada has seen the numbers grow by 10,900 or 19.5 percent.
