A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3900 block of Sweetwater Drive Thursday after allegedly gouging a man’s eye, stealing a bike pump, and attempting to stab someone with a sickle.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Brown Street on report of a battery at 5:25 p.m.

The reporting party informed dispatch that a male subject, later identified as Nathan Scott Chavez, has clawed another man’s face before running away. Dispatch advised Chavez left in a vehicle and was headed toward Fairview Drive.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a witness who stated they were loading a trailer full of a man’s belongings when they heard the man and Chavez fighting. The man is moving from the location and had his property in the parking lot located north of the property, according to the report.

The witness stated he saw Chavez on the man’s back, scratching at his eyes with his fingers. Chavez then grabbed a “sickle-like knife” and made “stabbing motions” at the man before two witnesses grabbed Chavez and pulled him off.

Chavez was put in a headlock while another witness grabbed the sickle from Chavez’s hand. After Chavez was pulled off, the report states, Chavez then grabbed the sickle and a bicycle pump from the man’s property and left in a white car.

Deputies located the victim and observed his right eye was swollen shut with a cut across the upper portion of the eyelid with blood running down his face and blood along his brow line.

The man said Chavez became agitated when the man wouldn’t give him a bike he had on his property, and then Chavez attacked him. He also stated that Chavez lived on Sweetwater Drive.

The fire department arrived on scene and said that the victim would most likely lose his eye, or his eyesight, due to the severity of the injury. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies went to the location on Sweetwater and stated they heard a subject in the garage speaking, but the subject would not respond to them.

Deputies located a white vehicle in the driveway of the residence and noticed there was a spot of blood above the door handle.

After several attempts to call Chavez out fo the residence, deputies applied for a search warrant. A sergeant was able to talk to Chavez on his cell phone, and Chavez agreed to exit the house. At the same time, the judge granted the search warrant.

When Chavez exited the house, he was placed in handcuffs.

Chavez stated he’d gone to the house on Brown Street to get a bicycle back from the man and stated he was storing it at the house. When the man refused to give him the bike, Chavez stated that they argued for a little then the man attacked him. Chavez stated that he “bear hugged” him. He said they fell to the ground since the man is bigger than him and he used his thumbs to gouge the man’s eyes to get him off of him.

Chavez stated he did not have any weapons with him and stated he had a “blue bicycle tool” and a “wood art project” with him. Deputies stated he changed his story again and again before admitting to what he called a curved metal saw with a wooden handle.

He denied using the saw on the man and stated he used it to fend off others around him as he tried to get back to his car.

Deputies searched the house and located a pair of men’s pants with multiple blood stains on them. He is the only male residing at the location.

Chavez was arrested just before 8 p.m. for Mayhem and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, both felony charges.

Bail: $50,000
