Enrique Tadeo, Chamber VP, presents Kaylen Weaver her scholarship certificate

For the first time since the Chamber’s inception in 1983, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce awarded its inaugural scholarship at the Dayton High School Senior Class Awards Night held May 27th in the DHS gymnasium.

A large crowd of students, staff, families, and friends attended the event which awarded close to one million dollars (not official, but close!).

Enrique Tadeo, Vice President, represented the Chamber and made the presentation on its behalf.

Kaylen Weaver, a DHS senior with a 3.6 GPA, was selected as the recipient of the $500 Chamber scholarship. Kaylen was involved for four years with the high school band, participated in pep rallies, fundraising events, and also volunteered at the V&T Railroad for four years.

She will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno this fall and plans to study Elementary Education.

Other local scholarships included the Soroptimists International of the Comstock, which presented two $500 scholarships; Dave Murray, Pioneer Crossing, presented two $1,000 scholarships, and Tony Martinez, Amlty Masonic Lodge #4 of Silver City presented $1,000 (Tony is a great golfer and golfs in the chamber tourney).

What a great way to make a difference in the lives of young men and women by participating in a scholarship program!

Over 300 awards and designations were made to deserving students from top academic awards to top athletic awards. Dayton High School is lead by Mr. Ryan Cross, Principal, Mrs. Julie Bumgardner, Assistant Principal and Mr. David Palmer, Assistant Principal.

The Master of Ceremonies was incoming Student Body President, Ms. Zolet Miklich.

We were so impressed by the leadership of the school.

It was an inspiring and uplifting night and gave us so much hope for the future! Congratulations to all of the students, teachers, staff, families, and friends of Dayton High School. Go Dust Devils!

We wish Kaylen and all of the graduating seniors the best of luck and full speed ahead!

A special thank you to counselor, Ms. Stephanie Seitz, who assisted us with our scholarship and made the entire process so easy. Well done, Stephanie!
