Drivers around Carson City have been buckled up for the most part as law enforcement agencies across Nevada wind down the “Click it or Ticket” campaign that began May 16 and ends Wednesday.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office participation in the Joining Forces Seat Belt “Click it or Ticket” event resulted in the following:

— 1 warrant arrest for failure to appear
— 98 citations for speeding
— 7 citations for other violations including cell phone usage and driving while suspended.
— 2 citations for non-seat belt use.

“We are pleased that the majority of drivers and passengers stopped were wearing seat belts,” said Carson City Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved an estimated 11,949 lives nationwide in 2011. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office reminds you to “Please buckle up. It only takes two seconds to put your seat belt on to help save your life should you be involved in a motor vehicle crash. So, please buckle up every time!”

Grant funding for this event is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety. These monies are used to pay for additional deputies who participate in these events.

Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement in the areas of DUI, distracted driving, seat belt use, speeding and pedestrian safety. The goal of these enforcement campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving, said McDaniel.
