Runners and walkers saddled up to the starting line Saturday morning at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City in support of foster families for the fourth annual Walk us Home and Family Fair, which continues today until 1 p.m..

There were at least 210 runners and walkers who signed in Saturday, organizers said. The 8K, 5K and 3K run and walk were not timed events but they did bring many avid runners and daily walkers. Those who didn’t walk or run were greeted with support of family and friends cheering them on at the finish line.

Meanwhile, information booths filled the parking lot of the BAC campus including hosts Nevada Division of Child & Family ServicesCASA of Carson City in partnership with the RennerVation Foundation.

Among the many participants including friends, family and co-workers was one generation of family runners from South Lake Tahoe. The first person to finish was Anthony Cupaiuolo of South Lake Tahoe with a time 23 minutes, 55 seconds. Followed closely behind him was his daughter, Olivia, who was the first female to cross the line. The oldest person to cross the line was, 82-year-old Tony Cupaiulo, the grandfather to Olivia and father to Anthony.

Also noteworthy and highlighted by the event’s emcee, Renegade (shout out to Renegade for the ideal mix of music, commentary and cheering all) was second place runner Cody Main, who, along with his wife Mikayla, celebrate their anniversary today.

This year, organizers added a playful twist with the theme is Hats On, Hearts Open! With a number of participants dressed in with colorful clothing, hats and costumes.

Why Foster Care is Critical to the Community

Did you know there are roughly 60 foster homes in rural Nevada for the 400 youth in foster care? Some counties have as many as 14 homes, some counties have as little as 1 or 2. There are even Nevada counties that have no foster homes.

When there are not enough foster homes in any given community, children are at risk of being displaced to outside communities, bringing forth a whole new set of challenges and setbacks.

Proceeds for this event will go toward the 2026 Camp RennerVation that invites Nevada foster youth to experience an unforgettable summer camp in Lake Tahoe.
