May is a beautiful time to experience the changing seasons at Washoe Lake State Park, and park staff are offering a variety of ranger-led programs all month long! Whether you’re into birds, plants, stargazing, or just soaking in a stunning sunset, there’s something for everyone.

All programs are open to the public and are included with standard park entrance fees: $5 per vehicle for Nevada residents and $10 per vehicle for out-of-state visitors. No registration is required. Dogs are welcome on a leash unless otherwise noted. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and bring water.

Full Moon Hike

Sunday, May 11 | 7:30–9 p.m.
Meet at the Equestrian Area. Hike 2.5 miles under the full moon on a flat trail with expansive views of the night sky.

Night Hike

Saturday, May 24 | 8:30–10 p.m.
Meet at the Equestrian Area. Discover the nocturnal side of the park on an easy 2.5-mile loop through open desert. Red flashlights recommended—some will be available to borrow or modify on-site.

Plant Walk

Sunday, May 25 | 10–11:30 a.m.
Meet at the boat ramp parking lot. Take a 1.5-mile hike along Deadman’s Creek Trail and learn about the plants of the park’s riparian and desert environments. Moderate elevation gain (~380 feet).

Sunset Beach Walk

Saturday, May 31 | 7:30–9 p.m.
Meet at the boat ramp parking lot. Stroll approximately two miles along the beach while watching the sun set over the lake and learning about the park’s history and natural features.
