Kyle Navarro, a St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church seventh grader, was honored Thursday by AAA Nevada for his leadership qualities as School Safety Patroller of the Year in Carson City.
Kyle has exhibited sound safety skills by making sure students get in and out of cars safely around the school drop off and pick up zone, said Haldon Johnson, AAA Business Manager. In addition to safety skills and school involvement, Kyle participates in school outreach programs for the homeless and is a “buddy” to lower grade students, added Natalie Feemster, a AAA insurance agent.
The honors included a $1,500 check from AAA Nevada presented to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Each year AAA Nevada recognizes its top young safety patrollers who have exemplary leadership qualities and are involved in the AAA School Safety Patrol safety program, which helps reduce pedestrian accidents as children cross streets to and from school.
A proud tradition since 1920, the AAA School Safety Patrol program equips patrollers with the skills and resources needed to ensure children commute to and from school safely.
This program includes more than 620,000 patrollers in schools nationwide who dedicate their time to ensure that pedestrians are safe. The AAA School Safety Patrol program contributes to major reductions in pedestrian fatalities and injuries near schools.
The ceremony was held as an assembly in front of classmates and teachers at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City.
