Carson City District Attorney Neil A. Rombardo said Wednesday he will assemble a team of prosecutors to analyze the evidence and reports to determine whether the death penalty is appropriate in the alleged beating death of William McCune.
“Based on numerous press and public inquiries, I felt it necessary to make this announcement at this time. A final decision does not have to be made until 30 days after a Criminal Information has been filed in District Court, which remains weeks, if not months, away. That being said, I want to make it clear that the District Attorney’s Office will analyze whether the law and facts support the death penalty in this case. We will make our decision based on that analysis,” said District Attorney Rombardo in a released statement.
At an initial appearance held on April 10, 2013, Justice of the Peace, John Tatro, agreed with the District Attorney’s Office and ordered the Defendants to be held without bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
On April 6, 2013, the District Attorney’s Office filed criminal complaints charging Michael Paul Evans, Anthony Paul Elliott aka Anthony Morris, Raul Marcos Garcia, and Makyla Lynne Blackmore with the crimes of Open Murder on a Person Over the Age of 60 Years and Burglary, as a result of the alleged beating death of William McCune.
