At 1:02 p.m. on April 5, 2026, the Carson City Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at 20 College Parkway, a large apartment complex in North Carson City. The fire was restricted to a playground area centrally located for access to all children residing in the area. Although Fire Department personnel were able to quickly extinguish the fire, the entire playground area was completely destroyed.

The fire itself ignited on or around the ground surface primarily comprised of rubber materials intended to soften falls for safety.

Numerous witnesses and surveillance systems were used to determine the juveniles in the area at the time the fire started. This investigation is on-going at this time.
This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 775-887-2500.
