The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Dayton man last week for alleged methamphetamine trafficking charges after a traffic stop in Mound House.

Jimmy Keith II, 52, was taken into custody and booked on charges of trafficking methamphetamine, in addition to multiple traffic violations, according to a LCSO news release.

On Friday, March 28, 2025, at about 10 p.m., the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Team was conducting routine traffic enforcement in the Mound House area.

During the operation, STET deputies observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 50 near Winter Parkway at a speed above the posted limit and failing to maintain its travel lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and the deputy made contact with the driver, Keith II.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, was requested to respond. K9 Kai alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle, prompting a probable cause search. The search resulted in the discovery of over 5 ounces (144 grams) of methamphetamine, according to the news release.

The purpose of the Sheriff’s Traffic Enforcement Team is to primarily deal with traffic and D.U.I. enforcement throughout Lyon County.

The unit also manages special assignments including parades, traffic escorts, traffic control, civic events, and other community benefit operations. Their overarching goal is to reduce traffic-related fatalities on Lyon County roadways through proactive and aggressive traffic enforcement. The unit is led by Sergeant Gabriel Santos.
