On Friday, March 28, a 2016 Porsche Coupe was traveling northbound on SR-341 Gieger Grade, north of mile marker 5 in Storey County. The Porsche was estimated to be traveling approximately 80 to 85 mph in a posted 45mph speed zone. The Porsche was approaching a left hand curve, traveling too fast.

The driver, rounded a corner at high speed. To avoid another motorist, he steered right, striking the metal barrier. The Porsche then traveled down a dirt embankment, coming to rest on its wheels.

The Storey County Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to the scene. After medical evaluation and investigation, the driver was arrested by NHP for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and carrying a firearm while intoxicated. The driver’s passenger was taken to Renown hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was booked into the Storey County Detention Facility on the misdemeanor offenses.

The Storey County Sheriff’s Office reminds all motorists that Gieger Grade is not a racetrack. Gieger Grade is a steep, winding mountain road. For your safety, and the safety of others, follow all traffic laws, including speed limits.
