Above average temperatures will give way to periods of rain and mountain showers midweek into Friday. The system will bring gusty winds Thursday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a High Wind Watch for Carson City and surrounding counties.
The weather system moving into the region will bring southwest winds across western Nevada valleys. Winds will be 25 to 35 mph with gusts exceeding 65 mph in wind prone areas, according to NWS forecasters, who advised of the potential for dust storms, power outages and snapping tree limbs. Conditions on Pyramid Lake could bring waves anywhere from 2 to 5 feet.
The high wind watch is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

While western Nevada valleys have warmed up, the anticipated change in the weather begins Wednesday, where forecasters say there will be an increase in shower chances that will extend south across the Lake Tahoe Basin into the eastern Sierra by the afternoon.
Snow levels will be above 8,000 to 9,000 feet Wednesday and will steadily drop through Thursday and Friday to 6,000 to 7,000 feet elsewhere across the region. Forecasters say there will be marginal snowfall amounts and limited impacts over Sierra passes with a 60 percent chance of 1 to 4 inches across the higher mountain passes.
For Carson City and surrounding valley areas, there’s a slight chance of rain showers Thursday, with the wind being the biggest factor, forecasters said. By Friday, the system may bring a slight chance of snow showers in the morning and then sunny skies prevail with a high near 51.
Weather models show a stronger signal for wetter and more impactful storm systems starting Sunday that continues into the next week, forecasters said. Check back for updates.
